Former president John Dramani Mahama has condemned the arrest of the deputy general secretary of NDC, Koku Anyidoho over his comments that a repeat of the 1972 coup which toppled President Akufo-Addo’s father will happen again.
Koku Anyidoho was arrested on Tuesday afternoon at International Press Centre where his party, in collaboration with other individuals, were planning a demonstration against government, which is slated today.
Taking to his official Facebook account today, Mahama slammed Akufo-Addo, branding him as a hypocrite who pride himself as a human rights activist but does the exact opposite.
“As a party that prides itself in the non-criminalization of speech, with a self-acclaimed human rights activist as President, the arrest of K. Anyidoho with armed men in the middle of a press event is obviously disproportionate,” he said.
He also condemned the police for their high-handed approach.
“Moreso, the high-handed police response to innocent citizens waiting at the CID HQ is condemnable,” he said,
