It appears Ghanaian footballer Michael Essien is about to hung his boot …finally!

The former Chelsea star has confirmed his exit Azerbaijani Premier League side, Sabail FK .

Essien confirmed the not-so-surprising news in a post on Instagram on Friday.

“It’s been a great pleasure, Until we meet again Stay Strong and Safe…..Şəhidlər ölməz, vətən bölünməz! 🇦🇿🇬🇭🙏🏿🤲🏿✊✊🏿,” he wrote.

Our sources close to Essien tell us it is very likely he will not play for another club again and focus on coaching having completed his UEFA B badges two years ago.

Michael Essien, 37, is widely recognized as one of the greatest African players of all time. In his prime at Chelsea and Lyon, he was regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world.
