Member of parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya East Constituency, Mavis Hawa Koomson has been arresting for shooting at a registration centre in her constituency.
According to Richard Kwadwo Nyarko, Joy News’ correspondence in the Central Region the Minister for Special Development Initiatives is currently at the Central Regional Police Headquarters and is being interrogated by the Police.
Hawa Koomson shocked Ghanaians when she proudly admitted to firing warning shots at the registration centre in order to scare a violent crowd. “None of my men had guns on them when we got to the center. I fired the shots myself. Can’t I wield guns? Can’t I protect myself? My gun is a licensed. I can’t carry a gun without it being licensed” she told Adom News.
Her actions were widely condemned, with many calling for her to resign, arrested or be sacked by the president.
Security expert Prof Kwesi Aning was one of the leading voices calling for the MP to resign or be fired.
“It is my hope that the President will ask Hawa Koomson to step aside or probably dismiss her,” he said in an interview with Joy News. According to Prof. Aning, she should be sacked because what she did was absolutely unacceptable and has put her constituents’ lives in danger.
