Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul-Malik Kweku Baako has said NDC stalwart Professor Kwamena Ahwoi’s book on Rawlings is an attack on the integrity and memory of the late former president Atta Mills.
The former minister for Local Government under Rawlings administration revealed in his controversial book “Working With Rawlings” that Mills refused to prosecute hundreds of corrupt appointees of former president Kufuor.
According to him, he and late PV Obeng supported by Alex Segbefia had prepared about 100 dockets to prosecute Kufuor’s appointees but Mills decided against the prosecution because he believes tit-for-tat in governance was petty.
“I went to him with the brief and everything. After I had finished, he said back to me, look at me…we spoke Fante. ‘Kwamena so you want us to do it to them. When they come back, they will do to us. When we come back then we do it to them, then it will be doing and flowing aaaaa; did Ghana go or did Ghana come,'” Ahwoi revealed.
But reacting to Professor Ahwoi’s claim on Peace FM Kokrokoo show, Kweku Baako said it can’t be true because Mills on multiple times vowed to prosecute the corrupt appointees of Kufuor. According to him, the allegations in Kwamena Ahwoi’s book is an attack to the memory and integrity of Mills who can’t defend himself.
“Professor Ahwoi, Ablakwa and Nana Ato Dadzie have all said in the book that Mills stopped the prosecution of Kufuor’s appointees but that is a fallacy.. That cannot be true, but they all appear to believe it. It is in a way even attack the integrity of prof Mills. It is unfair to Prof. Mills’ memory.. and he is not here. Dead men don’t talk or defend themselves.
“Prof himself said he had evidence that Kufuor ministers are corrupt and he said NPP ministers are collecting bribes and kickbacks. So if after they had won and his position is that they should be freed, then it is an attack on Mills memory and integrity,” Baako said.
