Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has said the Nana Addo government will not legalize commercial motorbike popularly known as Okada as it is risky.
There has been confusion on the New Patriotic Party’s official position on commercial motorbike aka ‘Okada’ after the Transport minister Kwasi Ofori Asiamah said the government was engaging with stakeholders.
But speaking at an event on Thursday in Accra which saw VW and BlackIvy signed an MoU, Vice President Bawumia has come out clear they won’t legalize okada because it is a risky business.
According to him, riders “need to graduate from this risky and less risky Okada riding to a safer means of transportation.”
He added that the Nana Addo government has better alternative of empowering them to purchase brand new cars assembled in the country to engage in a much safer venture.
